In the process of trying to eke out a bit of pocket money from the web I tried to list a digital item (ebook) on Ebay this week. The site was just not working and wouldn't let me list it properly - as if I could post the electrons to customers. Hmh. It took three live chats before an operator did me the decency to realise there was actually a fault! Then there was no assurance that it would be fixed, just referred to the techos.
Then I thought I'd see if Amazon had textbooks that I needed. Sure, every title was there in their multifarious conditions. I filled my trolley (it's a trolley in Australia, not a cart) and pro-ceeded to checkout. Although they reckon they ship to my sunburnt country, they don't. Not now, not before and I guess they never will.
What is it about these megasites? They too rich to bother? They've got too many employees so they sacked the ones who look after these 'insignificant' links? At least eBay has the grace to offer a live chat help as well as email, but try to find any useful help when things aren't working on Amazon well, you'd be up the Amazon without a paddle.
